Twelve years ago I was ten years old and I read a book called ‘Tuck Everlasting’ until it was so dark in my room that I could not see (hey, this is becoming a regular occurrence – maybe that is why my eyesight keeps getting worse), and it broke my heart.
What is the point of that statement?
I don’t know. I just felt like sharing it. It is a beautiful book, but I hear they made a less than average film based on it. I didn’t watch the film, never got round to it, really. Also, I feel like if I did, it would ruin the memory of the book for me.
It was one of those books that had a big impact on me because I think it was the first book to evoke real emotion. Before that it was the cheery chatter of Anne Shirley and Enid Blyton’s self righteous children.
Anyway. Here it is.

I never read that one but I know that feeling. I just finished Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book and sobbed. It sounds like a bad thing but I love it. Thank you for your interest in my blog and I look forward to following yours.

Oh you read it! Yay! I’d consider that a horror book. I think much horror steps outside of genre.

Really! That’s interesting, I didn’t think of it that way, but now you mention it, certain aspects do seem to correlate to the horror genre – the despair of living forever, reliving what Jesse went through over and over and seeming to be frozen in time… Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I have not read the book but I have watched the movie (2002). Towards the ending it was heartbreaking but that is life

Yes that sure is what life is like. I guess you sort of just expect a book to have a happier concept – but sometimes it’s good to get a kick of reality (as much as Tick Everlasting can be reality!) to hone it in. I think the book is powerful because of its heartbreaking ending.

It was heartbreaking. But that is life she wanted to keep on living and that is why she decided to not drink the water of everlasting life.
